Andaz Liverpool Street in London offers a new hotel service that is unique from any hotel in the world! They offer bedtime storytelling to its guests who desire to hear stories or talk about literature before they go to bed.
The idea originated from Damian Barr, a 31-year old freelance journalist and former resident writer at London's Royal College of Art. Barr said that not all people had the chance to listen to bedtime stories when they were children. Thus, he developed the idea of reading stories to people who want to experience bedtime storytelling by avail the services offered by the hotel.
Reading stories plays an important role in the formative years of a child. That is why it is highly advised to parents to tell their children stories before they go to bed. Not only does this time provide a bonding moment for parent and child, but it also practices the child's imagination and trains his comprehension skills. At this early age, children also learn moral values such as love, hope, courage and trust. It also teaches them how to dream and believe.
But the truth is, not all people actually get to experience this in their early childhood days. It does not mean, though, that they lack something in their development years. But it is not too late to go back and experience the process. It does not merely allow guests to experience child-like bedtime storytelling, but also to give ideas to parents on how to approach their children using the same method.
This also provides travelers a time off their busy schedules to relax and talk about books that are pleasurable for them. Barr explained that people who travel don't really bring a lot of books with them. They bring mostly business papers or documents related to work or study. They miss the chance of getting a good read that will lighten their mood and make them smile for a while. Barr always packs a selection in case he feels like reading anytime, anywhere. He packs three to four books in varying topics so that he can choose from them depending on his mood. The topics of books that can be read to guests who request this service can vary from a gazillion topics. There will be no limitations.
Barr also intends to keep in touch with people even after their reading sessions in case the guests wanted to ask him something. He says that people are not sure what they should be reading, thus, if someone needs his advice or wants to ask questions, he will be glad to communicate with them.
However, Barr clarifies a very important point: this hotel service is primarily literary in nature. If there are people trying to respond violently or insinuate unnecessary actions during his reading, the hotel security is always ready to back him up. This statement also aims to give assurance to the guests (and to Barr as well) that this service offers a healthy relationship between service provider and customer.
During this two-week program, Andaz Liverpool Street proves that bedtime storytelling chooses no age for its listeners. Nobody is too old to hear great stories and satisfy their great hunger for learning and intelligent conversations.
