- 1). Secure funding for the building of your kennel. Choose investors that you are comfortable working with, as they will likely expect to have some say in the process in exchange for monetary assistance.
- 2). Choose the property on which you will construct your kennel. Select a large, flat piece of land to accommodate the pens and cages in your kennel.
- 3). Map out the layout of your kennel, including indoor and outdoor animal cages and exercise yards, pen and office locations, as well as the route your kennel's utility wires and pipes will take to connect your kennel to services such as electricity and sewage.
- 4). Establish your kennel's connectivity to utility services. Electric wires and water pipes are often established prior to the pouring of the foundation.
- 5). Pour the foundation for your kennel.
- 6). Build the flooring of your kennel. For office space this will require establishing raised wood, brick, stone or metal flooring. For animal space, you might consider pouring more concrete to establish indoor or outdoor concrete slabs for cage or pen space.
- 7). Erect the walls of your kennel. Because kennels can be stressful for animals, best practices suggest not including outward-facing windows in animal cages and pens.
- 8). Erect the outdoor caging and exercise yards. Some fencing may require additional concrete flooring, depending upon the height, weight and strength of the fencing.
- 9). Paint, plaster and polish your kennel to put the finishing touches on your building.
