A lawn tractor can be a huge help when pulling the plastic pipe back as the pump is withdrawn from the well.tractor image by Alison Bowden from Fotolia.com
Shut off well power at the main breaker box. Remove the well casing cover. Use the flashlight to illuminate the interior of the casing. Locate the pitless adapter fitting about five feet down the side of the casing. It has a hole with a 1-inch pipe thread in the top. - 2). Lower the pipe-threaded end of the T-bar tool down to the hole in the top of the adapter.
- 3). Turn the T-bar clockwise to engage the threads while holding the tool steady. Continue to turn the T-bar tool clockwise until it stops threading---about seven turns.

An old car wheel---without the tire---can be used to smoothly roll the flexible pipe out of the well and along the ground.old wheel image by MAXFX from Fotolia.com
Clamp two 3-foot-long 2-inch by 4-inch wood studs to opposite sides of the casing pipe using two 1-inch-wide nylon tie-down straps. Bolt two 6-foot-long studs to the tops of the vertical studs and tilt them down to the ground in the direction you want to lay the pipe. Use another tie-down to attach a standard cement block between them. - 5). Insert a 2-foot-long 2-inch steel pipe through the rim and roll it on the studs until the edge of the wheel is over the casing. Screw 2-inch pipe straps into the tops of the studs to secure the wheel over the casing. The rim functions as a roller to help the pipe bend smoothly 90 degrees as it is pulled out of the casing and along the ground.
- 6). Position the lawn tractor about 15 feet from the well casing in a direct line with the auto rim. Tie one end of the towrope to the front of the tractor and form a 2-foot loop in the other. Pull the rope over the middle of the rim, and drop it down over the T-bar handle.
- 7). Tug the T-bar handle up to disengage the pitless adapter. Smoothly lift the handle until the plastic pipe starts to come out of the casing. Loop the pipe over the rim and pull it taut as your partner slowly backs up until the rope is taut.
- 8). Start pulling the pipe out of the casing. One person should slowly back the tractor as the other person guides the pipe up and around the rim. Make sure the safety rope and pump cable slide smoothly up with the pipe.
- 9). Remove the nylon pipe guides from the pipe, cable and rope as they emerge from the casing, about 15 feet each. When the pump comes into view down the casing, prepare to guide it carefully past the pitless adapter then smoothly out of the casing. Continue to pull the pipe with the tractor and lay the pump on the ground.
