4 Keys to Successful Weight Loss

Most of us struggle with weight gain because of our sedentary lifestyle, bad food choices or compulsive eating. Although we know that it might lead to serious systemic diseases later in life, it may seem hard to stick to a diet plan and exercise regimen. We invest in fad diets in an effort to lose weight and quit when we have attained our desired goal. However, with lack of proper food maintenance and exercise, the weight will pile back on. Instead of feeling despondent and frustrated, follow these successful weight loss tips.

Try Different Exercise Regimens

If you stick to just one, it may prove to be boring as time goes by. Including different exercise regimens to your regular workout will keep things interesting. Monotony is the root of all failed attempts at losing weight. Inject some flavor by trying out diverse disciplines. This is especially applicable to your cardio routines. Try yoga, zumba and other exercises to get your heart rate up.

If you do not have the budget to attend workout classes, you can download many fun workouts on the Internet. That will cost you nothing and yet motivate you to keep exercising. As long as you keep things exciting, there will be no reason not to exercise.

Be Realistic

There is no magic pill that can be taken for immediate weight-loss results. Unless you invest in drastic measures like liposuction, no one can lose 10 pounds in one day. By setting realistic expectations, you will be able to stick to your diet plan and reap the benefits as you go along.

Most of us set our goals too high and that leaves us feeling frustrated each time we get on the weighing scale. This attitude will only lead to depression and may cause you to binge on food out of frustration. Losing two pounds a month at a steady pace is better than nothing at all.

Cheat Sometimes

Give yourself a cheat day once in a while. This will allow you to indulge in your favorite treats, albeit in smaller portions. However, it would be best if you gave yourself at least a month before allowing yourself a cheat day. By doing so, your body will be given time to adjust to your new eating pattern.

Allowing yourself one day to indulge will improve your chances of sticking to the program. Complete deprivation does not help, if you plan on sticking to your current eating lifestyle for good. Once your body has adjusted to your new dietary choices, you may notice that there will be less of an urge to eat unhealthy food.

Motivate Yourself

Buy a dress that is two sizes smaller and take a picture of it. Post it on a social-networking site. Showing your friends your motivation will force you to achieve your ideal weight. Once you can fit into the dress, post a picture of yourself wearing it. The praises you receive will positively motivate you to lose more weight and doing so may inspire your other friends to do the same.

Your goals should center more on becoming healthy and less on how aesthetically pleasing you will be, after you lose the extra pounds. While that may serve as a motivation, it is a shallow reason to stick to a weight-loss regimen. Lose weight to be healthy and to live longer. This, after all, is the true reason why weight-loss is important.
