Community Cohesion Education Standards for Schools

    Common Values

    • The curriculum focuses on ways to eliminate prejudice by reflecting appreciation of diversity and asks students to evaluate existing biases and stereotypes. The program places emphasis on involving students in all areas of their community by educating and offering opportunities for involvement. Discipline and behavior procedures ensure students treat one another with kindness, acceptance and respect for diversity.

    Remove Barriers

    • This standard displays the school's commitment to providing equal education to every race and culture. The focus is to keep any group from being over-represented while representing the community around the school. Parents and community members as well as students are given equal access to training and education regardless of social background.

    Achievement Gap

    • Each student is assessed and placed in an appropriate class or program to ensure the best training and education possible. One focus with this standard is to keep social groups from being put at a disadvantage. It also guarantees that every teacher and staff member has the ability for promotion within the school.

    Community

    • The goal here is to work with the local community to promote equality and fairness to all social groups. The Local Education Authority trains school staff members on regulations related to community building. The school works within the community to remove stereotypes and bias and to promote fairness within the community.

    Overall

    • The overall goals of the community cohesion education standard is to show students how human rights are violated and to bring an understanding and acceptance of diversity. The standards promote fairness for students, staff, family members and the community. The standard promotes relationship-building for people with different backgrounds, and works to remove barriers that once restricted certain social groups.
