1951 Buick Specifications

    • Buick is the oldest American vehicle manufacturer still in business today. Founded in 1903, the company -- a division of General Motors -- produced 404,695 vehicles in 1951 alone. The models on sale that year were extremely varied, ranging from 335 horsepower to a much more modest 118.4 horsepower.

    Buick Deluxe

    • The Buick Deluxe is powered by an inline-8 engine, meaning that eight cylinders are positioned in a straight line on the engine. An overhead valve design means that the Buick's camshaft is positioned within the cylinder block and uses pushrods to trigger rocker arms. The engine has a displacement -- the volume swept by the eight pistons in a movement from top dead center to bottom dead center -- 320.2 cubic inches. It also has a 7.2:1 compression ratio, which is the ratio of the cylinder head volume compared to the volume of the piston before and after a compression stroke. Fuel is delivered via a two-barrel carburetor. All of this generates 152 horsepower at 3600 revolutions per minute. The 3678 pound vehicle has a three-speed manual transmission.

    Buick 40

    • The five-seat, rear-wheel drive Buick 40 weighs 3586.6 pounds. It is 76.4 inches wide with a 121.1 inch wheelbase. It uses an inline-8 engine with 246.9 cubic inches of displacement, positioned at the front of the vehicle. All eight cylinders are equipped with two valves that control exhaust gases and have a diameter of 3.1 inches, known as bore. Pistons travel 4.1 inches within the cylinders, commonly known as stroke. The engine produces 118.4 horsepower at a rate of 3600 revolutions per minute and 214.3 foot-pounds of torque at 2000 revolutions per minute. A liquid cooling system maintains the engine's temperature, ensuring it does not overheat and performs to its potential.

    Buick XP-300

    • A maximum 335 brake horsepower at 5500 revolutions per minute is achieved through a 215.7 cubic inch displacement engine. The engine type is V8, meaning that two straight lines of four cylinders are placed adjacently on the engine and angled away from each other, creating a V-shape. The cylinders have a bore of 3.3 inches and 3.3 inch stroke. The two-seater drop head coupe is 192.5 inches long, 80 inches wide and 53.4 inches high. An automatic transmission system delivers the engine's power the 15 inch diameter wheels.
