Alanis Morissette in Women's Health Magazine:
Singer Alanis Morissette is definitely a force to be reckoned with. She has a fresh new album titled Flavors of Entanglement and an even fresher attitude towards life. From her healthy body image to her feelings on Britney and Miley, Alanis, 34, dishes it all in the September issue of Women's Health. On her new album:
"It's a snapshot of a period of time.
Often, I write in retrospect, but this was done in the moment. I felt empowerment and rage and despondency, even giddiness and self-abuse. I ran the gamut."
When asked about the Britneys and Mileys of the world:
"I think it's child abuse to have someone in the public eye too young. Society basically values wealth and fame and power at the cost of well-being."
On body image (after battling eating disorders):
"I'm fascinated by aging and how a woman's body changes. I don't want to spend the next 50 years of my life trying to hide those changes. There's something very relaxing about watching it unfold instead of fighting it the whole way."
What makes her giddy:
"There's a song on the record called 'Giggling Again for No Reason', which is an ode to my friendships. I live with some of my best friends from high school, very commune-like, in my house. It's my hippie way of life."
On triathlons:
"It was amazing to use my body as an instrument rather than as an ornament. Being a woman is fun. If I have the blessing of being a mom to a daughter one day, I will encourage her to be really physical."
On her Canadian roots:
"I am passive-aggressive and I tend to be too modest. I need to take credit more often. I'm also very conversational. I can talk for seven hours with someone and feel like we haven't even scratched the surface."
How she stays fit while touring:
"I'm a cross trainer. One day I'll go bicycling, and the next I'll do some kickboxing o got for a long walk. Basketball and Volleyball are my favorite sports. I dance, too. Doing the same thing every day is not right for my temperament."
On lifetime goals:
"I want to go to Laos and do a show in Russia and get married and have kids. Maybe even adopt a kid. I'd like to live somewhere in the middle of nowhere for a while-maybe in a forest or on an ocean bluff."
