How to Replace Door Weather Stripping

    • 1). Remove existing weatherstripping material from the door opening. Use a putty knife or scraper to remove any residual adhesive.

    • 2). Measure the height of the door opening on either side, from the bottom of the door stop to the top of the threshold.

    • 3). Use a hacksaw to cut weatherstripping to the dimension determined in Step 2. Cut completely through the metal strip, then use a utility knife to cut the vinly tubing.

    • 4). Attach the weatherstripping piece cut in Step 3 to the inside surface of the door stop at the edge perpendicular to the door surface. Attach the weatherstripping with the nail provided. Pull the door closed as needed to make certain the vinyl tubing will pressed firmly against the door's surface when its closed.

    • 5). Repeat Step 2 through 4 to cut and install the weatherstripping to the opposite side of the door opening.

    • 6). Measure the width of the door opening at the top, between the two installed pieces of weatherstripping.

    • 7). Repeat Step 3 to cut the top piece of weather stripping to the correct length, then position it on the door stop and attach it to the jamb with the nails provided.
