Military Scholarships for Grandchildren

    Military Order of the Purple Heart

    • The Military Order of the Purple Heart makes scholarships of $3,000 available to the grandchildren of veterans who have received the Purple Heart. To be eligible, an applicant must have a GPA of at least 2.75 on a scale of 4.0, must be a citizen of the United states and must be enrolled for at least 12 credits during the semester in which the scholarship is applied for. The annual deadline is Feb. 15.

    AMVETS

    • The organization AMVETS provides several tuition assistance programs for the grandchildren of both active and retired military personnel. Current high school seniors may be eligible to receive a $4,000 scholarship disbursed in increments of $1,000 per year. AMVETS has also partnered with several online universities to offer scholarships and tuition discounts to the grandchildren of military personnel. For example, students pursuing a degree at Phoenix University may be eligible for a $7,000 scholarship. Eligible students at DeVry University may receive up to $9,000 in tuition assistance.

    Vietnam Veterans of America

    • The organization Vietnam Veterans of America offers scholarship assistance to the grandchildren of Vietnam veterans through the Mike Nash Memorial Fund. To be eligible, an applicant must be attending school on at least a half-time basis as defined by the college or university attended. This scholarship will only pay for study at the undergraduate level. The annual deadline for submission is May 31.

    Marine Corps Scholarships Foundation

    • The Marine Corps Scholarships Foundation offers scholarships to the grandchildren of Marine Corps veterans of certain conflicts. To be eligible, an applicant's grandparent must have served in the 4th, 5th or 6th Marine Division during WWII, or served in the 531 Gray Ghost Squadron, or be a member of the Marines' Memorial Association, the USMC/Combat Helicopter Association or the Basic Class 3-56. In addition, an applicant must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and an estimated family income of less than $86,000.
