Taking a concept from physiology and physical therapy and applying it to your goal setting opens up whole new worlds of possibility.
I learned about the idea of "range of motion" (ROM) from a physical therapist.
The idea is that each joint has a "normal" range over which you should be able to move it.
Those who are at PT often have restricted ROMs and it is the therapists job to come up with stretches and exercises to push that limit beyond it's current point.
Applying this to your goal getting efforts we can see how having a limited range of motion when it comes to any area of your life can reduce your possibilities.
For instance, if you are not comfortable speaking to groups of people then you have eliminated many interactions with potential clients.
On the other hand, if you can go some place like physical therapy and push the boundaries of what you are willing and able to do then the world is your oyster.
If public speaking is one of your tools then being able to do improv or stand-up comedy will give you more freedom of movement and expression -- even in the board room where you may never get more than a smile.
By extending the limits of what you think are possible in life you can open up your "behavioral range of motion" and do more things in your life.
Once you have the ability to make bigger things happen you'll find that while you are not hitting your new limits you are merrily working beyond your original limits.
