How to Adopt a Bichon Frise

    • 1). Visit PetFinder or another animal shelter search service and check to see whether any Bichon Frises are listed in your geographic area. If so, consider going to see those dogs, but note that they may not be purebreds (see Resources below).

    • 2). Check the websites of any animal shelters in your area and call to ask if there are any Bichon Frises that require a home. Not all animals available for adoption will be listed on the Internet. You may be able to ask to be put on a list to be called if a Bichon Frise comes into custody.

    • 3). Check to see if there is a Bichon Frise rescue organization within your geographic region. Rescue organizations usually work to try to keep specific dog breeds out of shelters, and they often have dogs in their care who require homes, or they may maintain a list of people who are interested in rescuing a dog when one becomes available. Note that rescue organizations tend to be selective, as they want to make sure that each dog goes to the best home possible (see Resources below).

    • 4). Place an ad on your local Craigslist or other service saying that you are interested in adopting a Bichon Frise. Someone who needs to find a new home for a Bichon Frise may see your ad and get in touch (see Resources below).

    • 5). Visit a dog show or Bichon Frise enthusiast group and make your interest known that you would like to rescue a Bichon Frise. People may be able to put you in touch with resources or with individuals who need to find a new home for their pets.
