- 1). Open the computer's CD drive and insert the Windows 2000 CD, then manually turn the computer off by holding down the power button.
- 2). Power the computer back on and wait until you are prompted to boot from the CD. When that message pops up, press any key to continue to boot from the CD. The prompt may only be up for a few seconds before the computer continues to boot normally; if you miss it, simply turn the computer off and try again.
- 3). Press "Enter" to go into the Windows setup when prompted and press the "F8" key if you agree with the license agreement.
- 4). Press the "C" key to create a new partition. If a previous partition (operating system) already exists on the machine, select that partition and press "D" to delete it, then "L" to confirm the operation. Deleting the partition will erase all personal information on that partition.
- 5). Select the size of the partition you wish to install (choose the largest to give yourself the most space) then press "Enter," then "C" to begin creation of the new partition.
- 6). Allow the computer to restart and boot normally (do not boot from the CD but keep the CD in the drive) and then follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 2000 on your machine.
