- Create a paper mosaic by using small pieces of colored paper to create graphic designs and pictures. Draw a design on the back of a paper plate or piece of 8 1/2-by-11-inch card stock paper. Cut out uniform squares, around 3/4 to 1 inch. Arrange the colors, using the drawing as a guide, to fill the design. For example when filling in a face, flesh-tone colors can be used for the skin, while red can fill in the lips. Once the colored paper squares are laid out, glue down each one individually with all-purpose glue.
- Make charms out of paper by slathering papier-mâché glue over one sheet of newspaper and folding it in half lengthwise. Fold the paper lengthwise one more time, creating a long thick strip. Then, allow the paper to dry, which should take about two to four hours. Use a flower, butterfly or fruit-shaped stencil and draw the design’s outline onto the paper. Cut out the shapes, paint each pendant with acrylic paint and allow them to dry for an hour. Insert a wire ring (1/4 inch in diameter) through the top of the charm and string them on a rope necklace or bracelet.
- Recycle old cereal boxes by making them into mobiles. Cut repetitive shapes out of the old boxes, such as circles, stars or fishes. The shapes can vary in size from 3 to 5 inches in diameter or length. Drive a hole at the top of each shape with the end of a pair of scissors or hole punch. Next, cut all-purpose twine in 6-, 7- and 8-inch lengths, and loop one end through the hole, knotting it on top. Tie the other end of the strings around the edge of an embroidery hoop. Use a 12-inch piece of ribbon to hang the mobile in the desired location.
- Craft roses out of crepe paper — a tissue-like paper that is available in many colors. Cut the paper into 3-inch strips. Holding one end of the paper, which will be the flower’s center, wind the rest of the strip around the center to create the flower’s petals. Once all the paper is gathered, wrap one end of a green pipe cleaner around the bottom of the paper bloom about three times. Next, bend the rest of the pipe cleaner downward, which will recreate the flower’s stem, and finish the paper rose.
