- 1). Measure and cut a length of wire for the necklace. Short necklaces typically measure 20 inches in length, and long necklaces can be 50 or 60 inches long. Add an extra 5 inches to the desired length of the final necklace, to give you room to finish the necklace without struggling with wire ends that are too short.
- 2). Place a plastic tray on the table. The plastic tray could be one made for jewelry making, or use any tray or platter you have which is flat. Arrange beads in the tray, designing a pattern as you place each bead down. The largest or most alluring bead should be in the center, if you are including one special piece. Alternate patterns and change colors every second or third bead.
- 3). Fasten a clasp to one end of the wire. Thread the wire through the hole on the clasp. Side on a crimp bead behind the clasp. Pull the wire back through the crimp bead to secure it.
- 4). Thread the beads onto the wire, starting with either end of the beads you placed on the tray. Add crimp beads between the other beads if you are making a long necklace. Use the crimping wires to tightly close the crimp beads around the wire.
- 5). Secure the other side of the clasp as in Step 3. Trim excess wire from both ends when finished.
