- 1). Purchase high-quality, thick paper that matches your decor. You may use construction paper, patterned craft paper, pages from antique books or homemade papers. Cut the paper to fit in the printer tray if you'll be printing out your butterflies.
- 2). Select a butterfly image or pattern from an Internet source. Choose an open-winged butterfly seen from above, as opposed to a side view.
- 3). Print the butterfly pattern onto the craft paper. If no printer is available, trace the butterfly by placing tracing paper onto your screen. You can also draw a freehand butterfly design on the craft paper for a more personalized look.
- 4). Cut out the butterflies using a craft knife. If your design is on tracing paper, place the tracing paper over the craft paper, and carefully cut through both.
- 5). Fold or curl the butterflies if you desire a lifelike, three-dimensional look. Secure folds or extra pieces in place using small dots of glue. For curved wings, curl the paper around a pencil or stick.
- 6). Affix the butterflies to the wall using long straight pins. Arrange any number of butterflies in an aesthetically pleasing design.
