Areas around Central Park, crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, riding in Prospect Park, along the Hudson River Bicycle Path, are all fairly safe and enjoyable areas in which to ride simply for the fun of it.

· Washington Heights, Manhattan Created a riding competition as well as a spectator sport with the six day racing which in turn helped with building the modern velodromes in the suburbs.
These indoor tracks have steeply banked oval tracks for racing bicycles.
· Pelham Parkway, Bronx Hold weekly races at inner city locations including Madison Square Garden.
Madison Racing, an Olympic sport is aptly named after those racing cyclists at the Garden.
A greenway which runs through the Pelham Bay Park then across the Bronx and along Mosholu Parkway and on to Van Cortlandt Park and then connects with the South County Parkway is also popular.
