- 1). Check the company's website for the EIN. Look at the bottom of web pages or on the "About" page. The EIN might also appear on company invoices.
- 2). Visit the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval (EDGAR) database (see Resources). If the business whose EIN you're seeking is a public company, you should be able to find its EIN on the first page of its SEC filings. Type the company name in the "Company Name" search box, and then press the "Return" key. Click on the "CIK" link to the left of the company name, and then click "Documents." Download the documents to your computer, and look for the EIN on the first page.
- 3). Visit GuideStar (see Resources) if the company is a nonprofit. In order to access a specific nonprofit organization's Form 990, which is a document that lists the organization's EIN on its first page, you'll need to register with GuideStar by providing an email address and password. After you've registered, go to GuideStar's homepage and enter the company name in the "Organization Name, EIN, City, State" text box. Click "Start Your Search." Click the company name when it comes up, and then click the "Documents" tab. Click "Form 990," and check page one of this document for the company's EIN.
