How to Update Windows XP Home

    • 1). Save and close any active data and programs, in the event Windows Update needs to restart the PC.

    • 2). Navigate to the Windows Update page. Use your favorite search engine and search based on "Microsoft Windows Update." Click on the link.

    • 3). Wait for the "Welcome to Windows Update" page. You now have two update options: "Express" or "Custom." Choose "Custom" which includes "Express" updates, in addition to other "Optional" updates. Monitor your browser while Windows is "Checking for the latest updates for your computer."

    • 4). Review and select updates. On the "Customize your results" page click and review the update options under the "Select by Type" section. Check-mark each update that you wish to include; "High-priority" updates have automatic check-marks.

    • 5). Initiate updates. Click the "green square" with a "white arrow" in the center labeled "Install Updates"; also take notice of the number of updates beside the label. Follow Microsoft's intuitive instructions as they arise.
