- 1). Mount the controller box near the pressure tank and pressure switch. The controller box should be installed indoors in an area that is dry and away from sunlight.
- 2). Disable the circuit you are working on and run power from the breaker box to the pressure switch on the pressure tank. A water pump typically runs on a 240V circuit, and electrical regulations typically require this to be a dedicated line for the water pump. You may need to install a 20-amp, two-pole breaker into the box if you do not have an existing circuit for your pump. There will be three wires: two hot leads and a ground. Connect these to the appropriate terminals on the switch.
- 3). Connect one end of a three-wire plus ground NM cable to the appropriate hot and ground terminals on the output terminals of the pressure switch. Run the cable to your controller box.
- 4). Connect the other end of the cable to the appropriate terminals on the controller box.
- 5). Run the sheathed wire coming from the well pump to the controller box. Strip the sheath to expose the four inner wires, three hot leads and a ground.
- 6). Connect the hot leads to the appropriate terminals of the controller box, and ground the grounding wire.
- 7). Restore power to the circuit and check for proper pump function.
