Pondicherry is located in eastern side of Tamil Nadu state of India. This is a city and a Union Territory. In local language, this place was called as Pondy but officially the name was changed in 2006 as Puducherry. The UT of Pondicherry has faced a lot of invasions and changeovers of ruling till long time. Reason being in this city, the cultural diversity is spread at every place. Pre Independence the tourism facilities at this city were not better. But post independence, the communication, connectivity and accommodation facilities were made available there. This city was also the best trading point in 1st century. Later the colonial history also made this place a nodal point of various trades and cultural heritage. In Indian history, this city was ruled by various kings. Pallava dynasty made this city as capital of their kingdom. Later Vijay Nagar Empire captured this city and ruled here for a long time. During their reign, forts were constructed to ensure the strategic safety. Later the Sultan of Bijapur defeated Vijay nagar kings and captured this city. British rulers also taken over this city from Sultan and ruled over here till India got independence. The unity in diversity is the main property of this city and this is only the reason that since independence, no communal riots have been seen here. This city has a lot of visiting places. But some of the most important places to visit in Pondicherry are enumerated below:-

Light House: This light house is constructed for the easiness of sailors. This light house is still functional. The upper floor of the light house is open for visitors while in the lower portion, permission neither is nor granted. At one time, not more than 15 persons are allowed to visit this light house.

Promenade Beach: This beach is most popular beaches located at Pondicherry. This beach is located at 8 kilometers from the main city. This beach attracts maximum number of tourists reach Pondicherry. Basic amenities near the beach are available on affordable charges.

Paradise Beach: This beach is also important and beautiful. Earlier, this place was the main center of trading through water ways. This beach was also known as embarkation point but presently this facility has been closed from this beach.

Old churches: In this UT, a long list of Churches is there. The premises of every church are large to organize any function in the courtyard too. The Churches are named after the famous saints like St. Joseph, St. Francis, St. Johns and St. Xavier.

Parks: In the Pondicherry, some of the parks like Nehru Park, Children's Park and Duplex Statue are located for entertainment of children as well as for veterans too. In all the parks, jogging tracks are provided for using by the veterans.

Botanical Gardens: In Pondicherry, various Botanical Gardens are located. In these gardens, species of various trees are still available to preserve the endangered verities. The Botanicals gardens are located in the city itself and well linked with local transportation to access.
