- 1). Remove wood and rock piles, which can function as skunk hiding places, from your property.
- 2). Pick up outdoor dog bowls in the afternoon. Skunks quickly learn that they can find a quick meal in a dog's dish. Secure your trash can with a lid that closes tightly and does not fall off if the can is tipped over.
- 3). Cover openings, even small ones, that allow access under your patio or porch, a favorite spot for skunks. Close garage and shed doors, and cover openings on these structures with ¼-inch hardware cloth.
- 4). Replace open composting piles with a secure composting bin.
