- 1). Click the start button and select "Control Panel." Double-click on the "System and Maintenance" icon and then the "System" icon.
- 2). Select "Advanced System Settings" from the left pane of the window. Click the "Advanced" tab.
- 3). Find the "Virtual Memory" section and click on the "Change" button. Uncheck the box next to "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives."
- 4). Find the partition that is being used for virtual memory. This is generally the partition on the list with "computer managed" next to it.
- 5). Click on the radial button next to "Custom size." Enter the value in megabytes for the initial size of the virtual memory and the maximum amount of space it can use on the hard drive.
- 6). Click "OK" at the bottom of the window. Allow Windows to restart to finalize the change to the virtual memory if this action is requested.
