- 1). Choose monitor speakers or PA speakers. Monitor speakers produce a flatter sound, while PA speakers are better for music and dancing. If you can afford them, go with PA speakers.
- 2). Hook up the speakers to your amplifiers, and plug the speakers and amps in to a wall outlet.
- 3). Choose a mixer. Mixers let you mix the sounds coming from your turntables and adjust bass, treble and other audio qualities. There are many of mixers on the market, and they vary widely depending on budget and features.
- 4). Plug in the amps to your mixer.
- 5). Set up your turntables on the DJ stand. Many DJs still use vinyl, but you can also buy a CD turntable.
- 6). Run the cables between the turntables and the mixer.
- 7). Hook up your headphones to the mixer. You'll be able to listen to one record in the headphones while the other is playing over the speakers and be able to beat-match the songs when you switch from one to the other.
