I have recently been reading articles and books by my favorite authors, (John C Maxwell, Jim Rohn and Chris Widener) to work on my personal development.
This is an area where many people these days do not take enough time to work on.
Every one of these internationally known authors/speakers has told so many of us this same thing.
They may have different ideas on how to do this, however each one says you need to start from the same place...
from within yourself.
Interesting concept, but one that everyone should understand to be successful in any business venture that you pursue.
Right from the start, you need to understand what you are made of and how you see yourself.
Every person is a product of their environment, right from the day they are born.
Who, how and where they are brought up is a large factor in who they become.
All aspects of some ones childhood has a direct impact on who they become...
good or bad, outgoing or shy, determined or laid back, a leader or a follower.
Your environment and what others express to or about you, plays a big role in your attitude about yourself as well as the world around you.
As you grow, all the opportunities that you are exposed to and the people that associate with, also shape the person you become.
Philosopher and writer Voltaire compared life to a game of cards.
"Players must accept the cards dealt to them.
However, once they have those cards in hand, they alone choose how they will play them.
They decide what risks and actions to take.
" And as with a game of cards, no two hand are exactly the same.
It is what we do with the hand we are dealt that will determine if we are winners or followers.
From all of these conditions we are exposed to growing up, will make us the people we become and will tend to lean us toward the choices that we make in life.
We all have the capabilities to select different choices that would be contrary to our upbringing should we want to.
There is no reason that a person who received all D's in school cannot become a CEO of a company based on the decisions and choices that she makes throughout her adult life.
Once you understand yourself and what defines your attitude, then you can take responsibility for your choices and make them work for you.
These personal choices can be the difference between failure and great success.
Some suggested reading: The Difference Maker by John C Maxwell; Twelve Pillars by Jim Rohn and Chris Widener; The Angel Inside by Chris Widener.
