- 1). Park the vehicle on a flat and level surface. Apply the parking brake.
- 2). Prepare the trim for removal. Run a strip of masking tape on the vehicle along the edge of all of the trim that you wish to remove. This will protect against scratching the paint of the body panel as you slide your tool under the trim.
- 3). Remove the trim. Use the appropriate tool for the type of trim you are removing (trim removal tools are marked for their intended purpose, for example, door molding, door edge or window trim). Slip the tool under the edge of the trim and slowly slide it along the length of the trim until you feel the tool contact a trim retaining clip. Lift the tool carefully while twisting it to disengage the clip. When the clip pops free, slide the tool up to the next clip and repeat the process until the trim is removed. Note that some trim is held in place with screws. If this is the case, use a screwdriver to remove the screws and then remove the trim piece.
