The ETSU Buccaneers entered the Atlantic Sun tournament as fifth seed, but left as league champions after beating Mercer in the Atlantic Sun Tournament Final.
This is East Tennessee's second straight Atlantic Sun title. They joined the conference for the 2005 season, having left the Southern Conference when the university ended its football program. It is their ninth NCAA Tournament bid.
The Buccaneers have a very different look this year after losing four of five starters from last year's tournament team -- three to graduation and one to injury.
The Bucs' leading scorer is forward Tommy Hubbard (14.1 ppg).
The school's best March Madness moment came in 1992, when the Buccaneers knocked off the third-seeded Arizona Wildcats in the first round before losing to national runner-up Michigan in the second round.

Why a Buccaneer?
You may be wondering why a school based in land-locked Tennessee sports such a nautical team name. The "Buccaneer" nickname comes from a local legend that pirates once used a subterranean river that once stretched from the mountains of eastern Tennessee all the way to the Atlantic as a hideout.Fast Facts
