- In a new feature unique to Internet Explorer 8, individuals can use InPrivate Browsing to prevent any trace of Web history, cookies, usernames or passwords from being left on the computer for others to see, whether on a public or private computer. To use this feature, open a new tab and select browse with InPrivate or select InPrivate from the safety button in the top right corner of the browsing window, as Microsoft.com states.
- IE 8 provides more protection from online threats, such as phishing, malware and click-jacking, than IE 7. For example, IE 8 uses SmartScreen, which is software that protects against Web and social-networking threats. If SmartScreen detects harmful websites, IE 8 will block the entire site. It can also block just malicious phishing or malware on legitimate sites without affecting the rest of the site, according to Microsoft.com.
- While both IE 7 and IE 8 have a favorites bar and tabs feature, IE 8 has an enhanced favorites bar that allows users to add a website to their favorites bar with just one click. Both versions also have search features, but IE 8 has searches with visual suggestions in the search results. IE 8 has Web Slices, which displays when a site is updated in the favorites bar, according to Microsoft.com.
