- On the first day, God creates light with the command "Let there be light!" The light is divided from the darkness, thus creating "day" and "night."
- On the second day, God divides the waters above from the waters below, thus creating the skies (above).
- On the third day, God commands the waters below to move to one place, with dry land appearing. This creates the earth, with God commanding that it be covered with vegetation, some of which produce food and/or are edible.
- On the fourth day, God creates lights in the skies (sun, moon and stars) to create light and darkness, as well as introduce units of time (days and years) and weather changes (seasons).
- On the fifth day, God commands the sea and skies to have inhabitants, thus creating birds and sea creatures.
- On the sixth day, God turned to the land to create inhabitants with his command. After bringing forth several kinds of animals on earth, he then creates humans--a man and a woman--in His "image." He then rests from his work on the seventh day.
