- 1). Remove all bedding from your bed. Unplug the heated mattress pad from the electrical outlet.
- 2). Examine the heated mattress pad for damage such as fraying of the wiring. Check the temperature controls for cracking or damage as well. Do not attempt to wash the pad if there is damage.
- 3). Check the label on the heater blanket bed. The label should state how to wash the item. Follow the instructions accordingly. If, however, the label does not provide washing instructions or your label is no longer present continue to Step 4.
- 4). Add enough cool water in your bathtub to completely submerge the heated mattress pad. Pour one load of laundry detergent into the bathtub and mix together with your hand.
- 5). Cover the heating controls on the pad with a plastic bag. Submerge the pad into the water. Make sure the heating controls do not touch the water.
- 6). Let the heater mattress pad soak in the water for 20 to 30 minutes. Swish the pad around in the water every few minutes.
- 7). Allow the water to drain from the bathtub. Rinse the heater blanket bed with cool water to remove the detergent residue. Wring the pad out buy swishing the pad. Do not twist the pad.
- 8). Hang the pad on a clothesline out of direct sunlight to dry.
