4 Common Marriage Problems (and How to Fix Them)

Most couples experience a bump in the road now and then after marriage.
Keeping an eye out for common marriage problems however, can help improve your relationship and ensure that it lasts for the long haul.
To help you in that endeavor, we've put together this list of four common problems couples complain about, and simple solutions.
Loss of Communication In the beginning, it seems like all you do is talk to each other.
Over time, however, that pressing need to share the details of your day can become greatly diminished.
This is particularly true after you've had children.
To keep communication flowing, have a date night once a week.
Kids or no kids, it's important to carve out time to spend together where you shut off the television, put the phones away, and just talk to each other.
Even if you're staying home, take the time to talk to each other.
Money One of the most common causes of marital fights is money.
Couples who have vastly differing spending habits can build a lot of tension.
Instead of letting this build up until you have a blow up, use some basic strategies to keep conflict to a minimum.
First, create a budget to ensure your minimum expenses are always met, and stick to it strictly.
If you have extra money after that, set a long-term plan for purchasing larger items such as vehicles or a house.
After that, allow each person to set aside a bit of money to spend however they like.
Sex Physical intimacy is one of the most important parts of any marriage.
Unfortunately, many couples allow this important element of their relationship fall by the wayside.
This is another issue that becomes particularly common after a couple has their first child.
With the exhaustion that often sets in after a baby is born, new parents tend to let their physical relationship fall by the wayside.
It is important to remember though, that this physical intimacy is the key to maintaining emotional closeness.
Make it a priority and try to have sex no less than twice per week.
Balance Whether it's work-life balance, or the great chore divide, many couples complain there isn't enough balance in their relationship.
While working is important for earning money to support your family, all of that income won't do much good if your family ends up being split apart by your hours.
When it comes to chore balance, try to let each person decide on the chores they'll be responsible for, and split them whenever possible.
Perhaps one person could load and unload the laundry from the washer and dryer while the other folds and puts laundry away.
Dishes can be split the same way, as can sweeping and mopping.
