- 1). Cut four strips of vinyl with your knife. Unroll the vinyl next to your skylight. Place the vinyl so that there are 2 inches of vinyl on one side of your skylight. Cut the vinyl 2 inches past the opposite corner. Cut all four strips with a 2-inch excess on each side.
Lay the strips aside. - 2). Apply a heavy line of caulk around the seam between the skylight and the roof. Place the tip of the tube against the seam and move the gun slowly across, leaving a heavy beading of caulk over the gap. Smooth the caulk bead by rubbing the wet cloth across it to completely seal the gap.
- 3). Replace the caulk tube in the gun with your tube of marine adhesive. Apply one bead of adhesive to a strip of the vinyl for each inch of the width of the flashing. Press the vinyl against the skylight. Place the strip of vinyl so that the top edge meets the bottom of the top lip of the skylight. Wrap 2 inches of vinyl around the corner on each side of the skylight. Press the vinyl against the skylight and the roof. Push the vinyl into the contours of the metal roof for a tight seal.
- 4). Move to the next side and apply the second piece of vinyl. Lap the vinyl over the wrap around from the first piece and cover the second side. Continue around the skylight to cover all four sides. Replace the adhesive in the gun with your caulk. Caulk the top and bottom seams of the flashing and wipe them with the wet cloth to completely seal the skylight.
