- 1). Gather the plant by the stems and locate this year's growth. Wear gloves to protect your hands.
- 2). Trim the stem just below where flowers grew with hand clippers or small garden sheers.
- 3). Cut above green wood and foliage. Avoid cutting anything below green stems.
- 4). Remove any parts of the plants that were damaged by frost.
- 5). Take branches from the inside and outside of the plant. Don't remove more than one-third of the plant at a time.
