What Does an Entertainment Agency Do?

The task of an entertainment agency is to promote and manage the affairs of professional performers in the entertainment industry. The main talent that you need to possess if you want to establish a corporate entertainment agency is a good business sense and the ability to develop close working relationships with others. Being an excellent communicator and negotiator is also important along with the ability to be confident, persuasive and persistent.

Once you establish your agency, you need to go out and meet singers, actors, musicians, circus performers, and try to negotiate them into hiring you as their agents. The more artists you are affiliated with, the better your reputation gets. As an agent/manager of the artist, you have to work hard to get more work and more publicity for your clients. Some of the tasks that you are responsible for include arranging bookings and auditions for your clients, organising tours, booking venues, negotiating fees and contracts, arranging publicity and promotion, dealing with the questions of the media, and being a friend who advises another friend on certain career decisions that have to be made. Furthermore, as an agency, you need to advertise your firm as well. This way, anyone who wants to hire your artists for wedding entertainment UK, birthday parties or other events can give you more business.

If you are an individual agent, your working hours may vary depending on the amount of business you have. Most often, you would have to work standard office hours. In addition to that, agencies may have to send out a representative to special events or when artists from a different time zone need attention. Furthermore, even if you have an office to work in, there may be times where you would be travelling a lot to represent your clients. Sometimes this job can be stressful and one need to be aware of the work involved in being a part of a corporate entertainment agency.

In this industry, it is not the academic qualifications that are important. Your enthusiasm, experience and ability to build contacts can take you places as an entertainment agent. If you are reluctant to just start out on your own, you could begin by working with an established entertainment agency and study how things work. Once you have worked your way up the career ladder and have gained all the experience that you need, you could quit and think about how to start up your own agency.
