Maintaining A Good Central Air System

Central air units are expensive pieces of equipment and are worth keeping in good quality.
Unless you spent money to have the unit replaced in your home or you purchased a house with a good unit, it's important to maintain the system to get the most life out of it.
The more you maintain, the less you will spend in additional maintenance costs.
All it takes is a little bit of knowledge of how to maintain the system and discipline to maintain it.
The first tip for maintenance is to make sure your air filter is relatively new and clean.
If you are unsure whether the filter has been changed recently or not, then it's probably time to make the switch.
You can purchase air filters at your local hardware or grocery store.
Check the size of the filter currently in the system and get a corresponding filter in size.
If you had any difficulty with your central air system, replacing the air filter can fix several problems.
It's important to change air filters every few months to allow the central air unit to function at its highest.
The second tip for maintenance is checking your air ducts around your home for dust, dirt or debris build-up.
You can see build-up on the outside of the duct and inside the duct.
To look inside the duct, simply take the cover off with a screwdriver.
If you see any type of build-up, then you need to remove it to allow your ducts and vents to function properly.
You can use your home vacuum to clean ducts and vents.
Use the suction hose function on your vacuum to reach the vent or duct and clean the area as good as you can, until there is no longer build-up.
Check every vent or duct in your home and make sure each is clean.
Also, check your outdoor air unit and make sure there isn't build-up around that unit.
Make sure other objects aren't obstructing the air intake of the outdoor unit and if so, remove the objects so the unit has enough space to function.
The last tip is important for maintaining a quality system.
Central air professionals need to check your system every year for routine maintenance.
Professional maintenance is needed because it keeps the central air system in good working order and a professional can catch any issues in the system.
Prevention of issues is important because it saves you money and professionals can catch them before they turn into expensive fixes.
Always remember to have a professional check your system.
