- 1). Click "Start" > "Run." A dialog box will display in which you can type in commands for execution.
- 2). Type "command.com" in the open dialog box, then click "OK" to execute. The "c:\WINDOWS\system32\command.com dialog" box will open.
- 3). Type in the name of the drive you want to search. For example, to locate missing DOS files on a CD-ROM that is in drive D, type "D:" then hit the "Enter" key.
- 4). Type "Dir" and press the "Enter" key to list the files on the D drive. Look at the list to locate missing DOS files. To locate a specific DOS file, type "dir command.com". In this example, "command.com" is the missing DOS file you are trying to locate.
- 5). Once you locate a missing DOS file, make a note of the directory and any pertinent file attribute information that may be needed. Type "Exit" and hit the "Enter" key to close the DOS dialog box.
