- 1). Measure the length of the area to be covered with the panel. Add 1 1/2 inches to the measurement to determine the length of fabric to purchase. The extra material will be used to stitch pockets for the curtain rods.
- 2). Measure the width of the space and double the measurement to determine the amount of fabric needed. Use personal preference to decide whether the curtains will need more fabric for tight gathers, or less fabric for few gathers.
- 3). Create side seams for the length of the panel by measuring and folding under 1/4 inch of material along both sides. Pin the material and press with an iron set to the appropriate temperature for the fabric. Remove the straight pins and measure 1 inch along the length of the fabric. Fold the material under at the 1 inch mark and secure with straight pins. Press the material with the iron.
- 4). Set the sewing machine to the straight stitch setting and sew the side seams of the panel.
- 5). Remove the pins from the fabric and press the fabric.
- 6). Create a pocket for the curtain rods at the top and bottom of the panel. Use the same measurements and technique to create the pocket that was used to make the side hems.
- 7). Attach curtain rods to the top and bottom of the area to be covered with the curtain panel. Insert the rod through the upper and lower pockets of the panel and attach the rod to the bracket.
- 8). Adjust the curtain panel to present an even flow of fabric.
