- 1). Use a sterile container to store the urine sample. This is usually provided by the physician or lab.
- 2). Wash your handles with warm water and an antibacterial soap to prevent your hands from introducing foreign matter or bacteria.
- 3). When you open the container, make sure not to touch the inside of the container and set the lid so the inner surface faces up.
- 4). Clean the area around the genitals using an alcohol swab. For males, this is the tip of the ****. For females, open the folds of the labia and wipe front to back.
- 5). Urinate into the toilet a few seconds before urinating in the sample cup.
- 6). Keep urinating until you have filled the cup enough to give a sufficient sample. If your not sure how much will be needed, fill the cup up if you can.
- 7). Put the lid back on the container without touching the inside of the lid or container.
