We all know that you shouldn't miss breakfast, but the truth is that we are often in too much of a hurry, first thing in the morning, to think about calories or healthy choices. Having a protein diet shake for your breakfast is the wise choice on many levels and not just the time factor.
The first fact is that you get all the nutrients that you need in a single helping. Secondly, if you replace your normal fat enriched 700 calorie breakfast with a 150 calorie protein diet shake you have reduced your intake by 550 calories! You are reducing your intake by a significant amount and the day is just starting. A week of this and the results are there for you to see on the bathroom scales. Keep it up for a month and it will be obvious to everyone that you meet that you have made some positive improvements in your life.
Additionally, you will see an increase in your energy levels. This can, of itself, lead to more activity and we are all aware that increased activity leads to burning more calories.
Furthermore, a protein diet shake can keep your blood sugars in balance. This will allow your body to use stored body fat as fuel to keep you going.
Although the majority of those trying protein diet shakes are pleased that they can lose weight without planning meals or thinking about food as much, there is in fact another hidden benefit.
Once you have been on a protein shake diet for a little while you become aware of the benefits of consuming fewer calories and of obtaining sufficient nutrients. This may be sub-consciously at first but as you lose the excess weight and begin to feel more healthy you will become even more aware.
The desire to enjoy your renewed health and to become more active will strengthen your resolve not to return to your old eating habits.
You may want consider an alternative to cow's milk as the liquid that you choose for your protein shake. Don't use fruit juice unless you juiced it yourself. Store bought fruit juice will usually contain too much sugar. Almond milk, rice milk, soy milk are ok and shouldn't cause the problems that some people have with dairy products. I find that for most people the vegetarian types of juice are easier to digest .
