With so many options available for so called valet companies, it can be difficult for a first time user to know what to choose.
They all have nice ads, decent websites, and someone that answers the phone with what seems to be a little knowledge of the industry.
The most important asset you should look for in a valet parking company should be the insurance policies they carry.
When planning your wedding, the last thing you need as a host is an attendee calling you after the wedding claiming they have damage to their car and wanting the property owner - or evenworse, you - to take responsibility because the valet company failed to possess the proper insurance.
In order to avoid this potential headache, some of the first questions you need to ask the company are: 1) What policies do you carry? 2) What are the max coverage's? 3) What is your loss/claim procedurein the event of an accident? 4) Can you provide lots and lots of references from satisfied customers? Policies should include Garage Keepers Liability, Garage Liability, General Liability, and a general Umbrella Policy.
All three policies should include coverage between $300k-$1million.
Once you've set reservations with the company of choice you need to make certain that you receive a "certificate of insurance" with the event address and name as an additional insured dated for the proper event date.
Then, once you've received this, you'll need to call the insurance provider named on the certificate and verify the event is recorded with them and that the policy holder is up to date with their premiums.
This is essential as there have been numerous reports of forged insurance.
Follow these guidelines and you should be fine.
But if you don't take the time to double check everything I've listed above, you're in danger of a mishap of some sort on the part of one of the valet parking employees causing you (or the church/synagogue/other wedding location) all kinds of problems, including being responsible for large financial damages.
So make sure your valet service has got the insurance they need to give you the peace of mind to concentrate on more important things!
