Buying Carpet For Your Home - The Easy Way

New carpet is a great way to freshen up the room, and create a decorating theme that lets you unleash your creativity and design a look that perfectly matches your style. With advances in carpet manufacturing technology, today's carpeting is more resistant to stains and spills than ever. Along with its vibrant color palette and the warmth it provides year after year, carpet is both economical and practical for today's busy homeowner. Here's what to know when buying new carpet for your home:

Carpeting -- What's It Made of?

The fibers in material your carpet is made of will determine how easy it is to clean, maintain, and care for. The most common type of carpet material, nylon, is highly stain resistant and durable. When properly treated, nylon carpet will resist fading, spills and mold growth. It's also incredibly easy to clean. Because of its consistent popularity, nylon can also be recycled to make new carpet -- the great bonus for those looking for eco-friendly carpet that won't damage your budget.

However, nylon isn't the only carpet material out there. Polypropylene – also called Olefin - carpeting is incredibly stain, mold, and sunlight resistant and inexpensive. Although this type of carpet is often found in commercial and outdoor applications, it is also limited in the types of colors that are available due to its dying process. If you want a more vibrant color selection, polyester (PET) carpet is the ideal choice for you. Because of its earth-friendly construction, polyester carpeting is ideal for those who would like to go green without spending a lot of green. Although polyester is not as durable as nylon, it can be designed to perform well under every day circumstances.

What Color Will You Choose?

There are a wealth of colors, patterns, and textures available for your new carpet -- the extent of which is limited only by your imagination. A lighter color palette helps a room seem larger and brighter while giving it the appearance of an airy, open space. If your room is located next to an entrance, it's a good idea to choose a medium color which is excellent at hiding dirt, stains and dust. Dark carpet colors easily disguise the dirt and stains that can also make a room feel smaller -- with a cozier, more intimate feel if that's the look you're going for. You can also buy multi-colored or patterned carpet which presents a fun, festive and cute look that's great for children's rooms.

These are just a few of the points to keep in mind when buying carpet for your home. If you have questions about a particular brand, installation, or which type of carpet is right for your particular needs, it's a good idea to consult a professional carpet specialty store in your province. These experts will often be able to advise you on things like putting down your carpet, hiring an installer, and making your carpet last longer with warranties and guarantees.
