- 1). Create a Windows Live ID from the Windows Live Messenger homepage. On the homepage, click on "Sign In" in the top right-hand corner. When directed to a new page, select "Sign Up" on the left-hand of the page. Follow the on screen instructions to create your Windows Live ID and password, which will be used to sign into Windows Live Messenger.
- 2). Download Windows Live Messenger from the Windows Live website. Click on "Download Now" and click "Save File" when the pop-up box appears. Locate the saved file and double-click to execute the download process. Follow the on screen instructions from the Installation Wizard to complete the download.
- 3). Open Windows Live Messenger. Click "Sign In" and type in your Windows Live ID user name and password. Click on "Contacts" on the toolbar menu and select "Add Contacts". Type in the e-mail address of the person you wish to chat to in China. Your friend must also have Windows Live Messenger or another MSN version to communicate with you.
- 4). Download a Windows Live Messenger Translator software if required. Some contacts from other countries may not speak English, or may not have an American or English keyboard. You can download Senstic, a free translator, from the website by clicking "Download" in the right-hand corner of the website. Save the ".zip" file when prompted to the Desktop and extract the file. Double click on "TranslatorAddinSetup" and follow the Installation Wizard instructions.
- 5). Add the "Windows Live Messenger Translation Bot" to your contact list if you prefer to avoid additional software downloads. Click on "Contacts" in Windows Live Messenger and select "Add Contact". Type "mtbot@hotmail.com" into the e-mail address box and select "Add". You can chat with the translator bot yourself or invite a friend to chat with you and the bot, who will translate everything your friend says to English or any other language.
- 6). Start a chat session with the bot and follow the command instructions, which the bot will send you once the session begins. Once you have selected your translation method, click "Invite Friends" on the Windows Live Messenger chat screen with the bot. The bot will then translate each message your friends send, and you friends can even download the same bot to see your messages translated into their language.
