- 1). Open Windows Defender.
- 2). Update Windows Defender. Keeping the database update protects you from the latest forms of malware. To update Windows Defender, go to the "Help" icon and click "Check for Updates."
- 3). Scan your system for rogue antivirus software. Go to the top of the screen and click "Scan" to search for malware. After the scan is completed, you will the have the option to remove the malicious files.
- 4). Restart your computer.
