How to Get a Slave Flash to Sync With a Nikon SB600

    • 1). Open the battery compartment on the back of the Nikon SB600 Speedlight. Insert the appropriate type and number of batteries into the battery compartment and close the lid. Repeat this procedure, only with that of the battery compartment of the slave flash.

    • 2). Place the camera that will be used to take a picture on the platform at the top of the tripod. Screw the tripod screw at the top of the tripod into the tripod mounting hole in the bottom of the camera. Repeat this procedure with the other tripod, attaching the bottom of the slave flash to the top of the tripod.

    • 3). Place the front edge of the Speedlight's hot shoe mount against the back edge of the hot shoe plate on the top of the camera. Push the Speedlight towards the front of the camera to secure it on the hot shoe plate.

    • 4). Press the "Menu" button on the back of the Speedlight. Select "i-TTL" from the list of choices, using the up and down buttons on the back. Press "Menu" again to exit the settings.

    • 5). Place the tripod that has the camera on it so that it is aimed at the area that is to be photographed. Place the slave flash to one side of the camera.

    • 6). Move the tripod that has the slave flash on it about five feet away, along an imaginary horizontal line drawn between it and the other tripod. Then move it a foot towards the scene that is to be photographed. Angle the tripod so that the front of the slave flash is aimed at the area that is to be photographed at a 45 degree angle.

    • 7). Turn on the Speedlight and slave flash's power buttons on. Let the LED light on each illuminate to indicate that they are ready.

    • 8). Look at the slave flash as you press the "Test" button on the Speedlight to fire the two manually. Realign the position of the slave flash's tripod so that an imaginary line can be drawn between the sensor on the front of the slave and the front of the Speedlight if the slave didn't fire.

    • 9). Place your eye against the viewfinder of the camera. Place your index finger on the shutter button. Press the shutter button to fire the Speedlight and the slave unit as a picture is taken.
