Homeopathic Cures for Feline Urinary Problems

    • Cats are naturally predisposed to urinary health problems, due to many factors. Male, indoor or overweight cats are especially prone to blockage and infection of the urinary tract because of infrequent urination or narrow urethra. For minor urinary trouble, ease the cat's pain with homeopathic remedies that clean out the cat's urinary system and relieve symptoms. Always take your cat to the vet if it displays any symptoms of infection or blood in the urine.

    Cantharis

    • Cantharis is obtained from the blister beetle, or Spanish fly. This remedy is given to cats daily for pain and difficult urination. Cantharis works to maintain urine flow and soothe bladder pain. It can be found in liquid or tablet form, and is usually given in the dosage of one or two tablets per day.

    Cranberry

    • Cranberry has the ability to prevent bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract. It works best as a preventive measure, but it can help flush out the infection and relieve symptoms. Use pure cranberry juice or cranberry caplets two or three times a day.

    Vitamin C

    • Vitamin C will reduce inflammation and strengthen the bladder lining. This helps the cat fight infection and might relieve symptoms. Dosage varies from 250 to 500 mg twice daily, based on weight. Vitamin C can cause diarrhea, so give the smallest amount possible to prevent side effects.

    Food and Water

    • Make sure the cat has plenty of fresh, clean water. If it won't drink enough, try moist food. The cat's food should be well-balanced, with as few additives as possible. Eggs or meat should be the first ingredient.
