- 1). Measure the width and length of the pool with a tape measure to determine the proper size of the cover needed for the pool.
- 2). Choose a solar cover for a cover that prevents heat loss, evaporation and debris from falling into the pool. This type of cover will not prevent animals or children from falling into the pool and cannot be used as a winter cover.
- 3). Select a leaf cover to prevent leaves from entering the pool while allowing rainwater to keep the pool water topped off. This type of cover is not a winterization cover and will not prevent evaporation and children or animals from falling into the pool.
- 4). Select a heavy mesh cover to prevent leaves from entering the pool while allowing rainwater or snow to keep the pool water topped off. This type of cover can be used as a winterization cover, but will not prevent evaporation and will not prevent children or animals from falling into the pool.
- 5). Choose a safety cover that attaches to the pool deck to prevent children and animals from falling into the pool. This type of cover does not prevent heat loss or evaporation. A safety cover can be used for a winter cover.
- 6). Select a solid cover that is held in place with sand or water bags for a winter cover. Choose the heaviest gauge cover as possible based on your budget for a longer-lasting cover.
