- 1). Choose the size you want your invitations to be, and cut this dimension out of the patterned decorative paper. Multiply the height of the patterned paper by 2 1/2, keep the width dimension and use this size to cut out your solid-color decorative paper.
- 2). Place the patterned decorative paper at the base of the solid paper, and fold the solid paper at the top of the patterned paper. Flip the papers so that the crease of the solid paper is now at the bottom. Keep the bottom of the decorative paper at the crease, and fold the leftover solid paper down, forming an envelope around the patterned paper. Unfold the solid-colored paper.
- 3). Glue the patterned paper to the solid paper so that you have an envelope shape which will reveal the patterned paper when opened. The patterned paper should be pattern-side-up and should be glued to the envelope in between the two creases in the solid paper.
- 4). Decorate the outside of the solid-paper envelopes with the patterned paper. Create a single stripe for each envelope, which is the full length of the envelope and two inches wide. Glue each stripe directly in the middle of the outside of each envelope.
- 5). Prepare the information about your special occasion in a word processor. You will be printing off four invitations per ordinary 8 1/2 by 11 inch size paper, so you need to set up your word processor to accommodate these dimensions.
- 6). Go to page layout, select page orientation and change the orientation to the "landscape" setting. Also in page layout, from the columns section, choose two columns. Now you can type your information, copy and paste it three times to make four invitations.
- 7). Center the individual invitations by hitting the "Enter" key until all four invitations will have an equal amount of paper. Insert your transparent paper into the printer according to the manufacturer's instructions. When you are in the "Print" window, choose the "Properties" option and select specialty paper from the drop-down options of "Paper."
- 8). Cut your transparent paper to divide the four invitations, then cut it down to a size which suits the invitations. Glue the transparent paper to the decorative paper inside of the invitation, placing ample glue along the two vertical sides of the transparent paper. Center the transparent paper on the patterned paper.
- 9). Allow the invitations a few hours to dry before closing them up and tying a length of ribbon vertically around each one. The ribbon should be in the middle of the decorative stripe, and the bow should be on the front.
