- 1). Create a list of all of the information you will need to cite the source. This includes the author or editor of the book, journal or publication, the article's author, the title of both publication and article, the publisher, the city in which it was published, the date of publication, and the page numbers on which you found your source.
- 2). Write the last name, comma, first name, period, of the author of the article. Follow this with the title of the article in quotations, followed by a period.
- 3). Write "In" followed by the name of the book, journal, or publication in which you found the quote in italics. For example: "In The American Journal of Psychiatry," which will be followed with a comma, then Ed. (if you have the editor's name) and the name of the editor, first name first followed by last name.
- 4). Write the name of the city and state, separated with a comma, followed by a colon, then the name of the publisher, a comma, and the year of publication. For example: New York, NY: Harper, 1998.
- 5). Write the page number or numbers on which you found the quote, using a hyphen to separate the numbers if necessary, and follow this with a period. Write "Print" followed by a period. For example: "77-78. Print."
