- 1). Disconnect the power cable from the printer and wait for approximately 30 seconds. Reconnect the power cable and press the "Power" button to reset the printer.
- 2). Clean the printheads if the printer is not printing clearly. The printheads can become clogged with dried ink; cleaning them will remove the problem. Press the printer "Power" button continuously and then press the "Resume" button six times. Release the "Power" button and print a test page to see if the print is clear or missing dots or if color is replaced.
- 3). Go to the "Start" menu on your computer and click the HP Solution Icon. Select settings and choose the "Print Settings" tab. Select the "Printer Toolbox" and choose diagnostic page printing. Look at the printed page. If there are broken lines under the test patterns, you may need to realign the printheads. Align the printheads by clicking "Align Printheads" and selecting "Align." Repeat the process if necessary. Print a test page after every alignment until the lines print evenly.
- 4). Remove all the paper from the paper tray and replace with new paper, if you are getting a lot of paper jams. Make sure the paper is not humid, torn or crumpled. Remove paper jams gently and avoid using force, but be sure to remove all the paper. Use the straight end of a paper clip to help remove bits and pieces of paper. Patiently remove all the paper from the gears and rollers. Be aware that not all paper jam pieces are easily visible. Take a soft cloth and clean the inside rollers and gears after removing the paper.
- 5). Remove the cartridges from the printer, clean the cartridge slots with a clean cloth and reinstall them again, if you are getting cartridge install errors in the display window. Replace the cartridges if the problem persists. You can also reinstall the printhead to resolve the problem.
- 6). Disconnect the printer USB cord from the computer. Download the latest software and printer driver from the HP official website (see Resources) if the computer does not detect the printer, or the pages are not being sent to the printer. Click the driver icon in the folder you saved it to, and wait for the installation wizard to begin. Follow the on-screen installation wizard and reconnect the USB cord to the computer when prompted to do so. Click "Finish" to complete the installation and connect the USB cord, if you were not previously prompted to do so.
- 7). Call a local computer repair shop, or contact HP to send the printer in to be fixed if none of the above troubleshooting techniques worked.
