How to Cure an Iron Skillet on a Stove Top

    • 1). Clean the cast iron skillet with soapy water. Rinse it well under a cool tap and dry with a microfiber cloth.

    • 2). Dampen a paper towel with peanut or vegetable oil and wipe down the entire surface of the skillet, including the handle. Preheat the burner for two to three minutes on a low setting.

    • 3). Set the skillet onto the burner and allow it to cure for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the peanut or vegetable oil turns a dark brown color and is almost completely evaporated.

    • 4). Remove the skillet from the heat with an oven mitt and allow it to cool completely.

    • 5). Wipe down the skillet with a paper towel to remove any remaining oil.
