"How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" has been a metaphysical conundrum for what seems like eons and I have no answer-nor do I understand why anyone would ask the question. However, I was curious as to American perceptions on how many homosexuals reside in America. It turns out, despite popular belief, the number of gays in residence is nowhere near what most people think.
According to a recent Gallup poll, American adults think that homosexuals comprise approximately 25% of the overall population but "official data" reveal that gays and lesbians constitute somewhere between 2% and 4% of the populace. That latter approximation coincides with historical estimates which have changed radically since the American Psychological Association, the APA, changed its diagnosis of homosexuality from an abnormality to a normality almost four decades ago.
The hefty disparity between current perception and statistical reality is frightening even if it is understandable.
It's frightening because it is so misleading and because it contributes to the prevailing attitude that homosexuals are very much a significant element in American society and culture and therefore should be welcomed as merely brothers and sisters who "swing" in a different way. It's understandable because the new American culture has actively, relentlessly cultivated and promoted it.
Gallup randomly polled over 1,000 adults last month and discovered that 52% believed at least one in five Americans is homosexual, 35% estimated more than one in four, and only 30 percent estimated under 15%, astounding findings given the actual 2-4%.
The CNS.com report on the survey notes that a 2006-2008 survey by the National Survey of Family Growth, a group affiliated with the Centers for Disease Control, determined that 3.7% of adults were either homosexual or bisexual and the University of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center "found the percentage of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals in the United States in 2008 was 2 percent-a number that has been stable since the late '80s."
What, then, could account for the massive difference between truth and fiction? The answer to that query must be based on conjecture and personal observation, in effect, educated guesses, since, to my knowledge, no surveys have been conducted to explain it.
Unfortunately, American opinion is often dictated by American media and those media have manipulated the incorrect assumption that gays constitute an inordinate percentage of the general population.
For as long as there have been people, there have been gay people. As Jerry Seinfeld observed in the famous "Outing Episode" on "Seinfeld" in which he and George Costanza were accused of being homosexual lovers, "Not that there's anything wrong with that," which is true.
One only has to disregard centuries of religious teachings and the APA prior to 1974.
What's clearly wrong is the deception consciously being perpetrated on the public that gays comprise. in some minds, up to half of that public, a patent falsehood and testimony to the efficacy of media propagandizing. As with the disparity between what people think on the subject of gay percentages, absent studies and surveys, the media's motive in promoting homosexuality can only be speculated.
One reasonable guess is that homosexuals somehow gravitated toward the entertainment and journalism fields. Now firmly ensconced in influential positions, they can cast all the gay sitcom characters they wish, incorporate gay themes in television and movie dramas, and cherrypick news stories which accent gay bashing while minimizing stories reflecting negatively on the gay community.
As verification of tha view of skewed entertainment, one need only watch a few hours of daytime and evening TV and try to find reportage in the MSM on gay violence, rape, and murders of heterosexuals or homosexuals sexually exploiting children.
Regarding that gay exploitation, see previous posts. Also, compare and contrast press coverage of the horrific rape/murder of 13 year old Jesse Dirkhising with the equally-horrific murder of 24 year old Matthew Shepard. Jesse was ignored, Matthew became a gay icon.
"Ellen," "Will and Grace," "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," and "La vie, la vie" are merely representative of the homosexual presence on television. HGTV's series on domestic and international house hunting would seem to suggest a good quarter of worldwide househunters are gay, a highly unlikely possibility.
By inflating their numbers, homosexuals succeed in creating the illusion that gays represent a significant force that must be reckoned with, catered to, and appeased.
At the same time, the ploy creates a sense of kinship and familiarity which especially encourages sexually-confused young people to think they may be gay to experiment and "come out" and thereby conceivably become entrapped in a life they don't understand when all they really need is a few more years of maturity.
Or for Josie to call up Joey and say she loves him.
Factor into the media's infatuation with homosexuality and its concerted efforts to ignore virtually any news that doesn't enhance its infatuation, a president who has named more gays to his administration than all previous presidents combined, the ceaseless activities of such advocacy groups as the LGBT lobby and GLAAD, the repeal of DADT, gay marriage, annual "Gay Days" at amusement parks, and outrageous Gay Pride weeks in various cities, and celebrities embracing and endorsing the homosexual lifestyle etc., it's no wonder Americans have come to believe there must be a gay under every other bed.
On the one hand, estimating the pecentage of gays in America is as relevant as guessing the number of angels dancing on heads of pins. On the other, it's doubtful angels dance very much at all but the ulterior purposes of gays trying to make Americans think they're all over the place is very relevant, and suspect. Recruitment as well as acceptance and inclusion are intertwined.
No one is in favor of discrimination against or bullying people who are different. Likewise, the vast majority, the 96 to 98% of Americans who are heterosexuals, are entitled to express their opinions, have those opinions heard and respected and, if they choose, stand in opposition to the designs of the gay community-and to the numbers game they are playing.
